THE PSNI in Derry have climed they came under sustained petrol and blast bomb attack in Derry.
Over the weekend the PSNI/RUC have containued to wreak the homes of known members of 32 CSM & RNU members.

Police officers in Derry had a narrow escape after a bomb was thrown at them 48 hours before the Olympic flame is taken to the city.

The Police Service of Northern Ireland patrol came under attack around 5pm on Saturday as they were carrying out a raid in connection to serious crime.

A police armoured car was badly damaged in the explosion but no officers inside the vehicle were injured.

PSNI’s commander, Inspector Jon Burrows, condemned those behind the attack in the Rathmore Park area of the city.

“It is only by sheer good fortune that we do not have a fatality on our hands, as this attack occurred in a built-up residential area,” he said.

“My officers should be allowed to carry out their duties without the added pressure of misguided individuals intent on causing them harm.”

Following the explosion, a number of youths attacked the police vehicle with stones, the PSNI said.

Dissident republicans have been active in Derry in recent years, with theReal IRA having a number of terror units in the city.

The city has also witnessed a huge upsurge in shootings, beatings and expulsions of young men who have crossed the armed vigilante group, Republican Action Against Drugs.WITH MANY THANKS TO:The Guardian home

The 50-year-old suspect was arrested on Friday morning and detained under Section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act 2007 at Buncrana Garda Station.

Andrew Allen was shot dead on 9 February at Links View Park in the Co Donegal town.

The 24-year-old, who was from the Top of the Hill in the Waterside area of Londonderry, was one of a number of people intimidated out of the city by dissident republican group Republican Action Against Drugs.

He was gunned down through the window of his home in Co Donegal last month.

The 24-year-old father of two is one of many people who have been forced to leave the city following threats from the armed gang.

His partner, who also in the house in Links View Park at the time, escaped injury. The couple had been living in there for up to six months.

At the time of the murder Gardaí said they were searching for a gang of up to three men in relation to the fatal shooting.

RAAD claims responsibility for Strabane shooting

Republican Action Against Drugs has claimed responsibility for the vicious attack on a man in front of his terrified girlfriend and baby daughter in Strabane.

The victim is now recovering in hospital after being badly beaten and shot in the knee.

The incident has caused shockwaves in the Carlton Drive area of the Ballycolman estate in Strabane where the couple live.

Shortly before 10.30pm on Tuesday, four men wearing masks entered the house and shot the 26-year-old in the leg.

Sources said that when they entered the house the man’s girlfriend screamed at the gang that that there was a baby in the house but was told: “You and the baby get the f*** out of here.”

They then dragged the man to the ground and began beating him with an iron bar before shooting him in the knee.

The victim sustained injuries to his elbow when he tried to protect his face and has a suspected broken nose. He was taken to hospital for treatment but it is understood his injuries are not life-threatening.

The woman and child were not injured but are believed to have been left traumatised as a result of being forced to witness the shooting.

The gang wore plastic coverings on their feet and arms and had sealed the face masks with tape to prevent evidence being left at the scene.

It is believed they fled in a small red hatchback car which was found burnt out on Prospect Road shortly after 1am.

Chairman of the Carlton Drive Residents’ Group, Andy Gallagher, said everyone in the area was stunned and angry at what had happened.

He said: “People in the area have described those behind this attack as having the IQ of goldfish, and I agree. They are just going round and round in circles.

“This is not the first incident of this nature to happen here.

“The type of people they are targeting are young people in working class areas, council estates, who have nothing, and local people are left wondering, who is next.

“There is a myth that they are targeting big drug dealers in big houses with flash cars and that is a nonsense — the evidence is there to show that.

“They are shooting young people without any proof.”
