Éire Nua will deliver a just settlement for all the Irish people
Statement by Republican Sinn Féin Publicity Officer Geraldine McNamara
In a recent survey it has been claimed that fifty two per cent of Catholics living in the Six Counties wanted to remain under British rule, while 35% said they desired a united Ireland.
Firstly it should be pointed that the Six-County state does not even constitute a province as the other three counties of the historic province of Ulster are part of the Twenty-Six County State.
The Six-County state was gerrymandered by the British Government to ensure a permanent unionist majority in 1921.Only the Irish people as a nation have the right to decide their own destiny, there are thirty two counties in Ireland.
Republican Sinn Fein believe that in order to achieve a thirty two county Ireland free of British rule a federal republic has to be set up.
The Eire Nua policy of Republican Sinn Fein allows for all the people of diverse backgrounds to live as one nation.
This will provide a just settlement in Ireland.
ÉIRE NUA (New Ireland) — A four province federal Ireland, with a self-governing parliament in each of the four provinces: the nine-county Ulster, Connacht, Munster and Leinster. Each of these parliaments would deal with the governing of their province as part of the objective of the creation of an Ireland of self-governing communities in which people will control their own affairs.
The policy provides for the decentralisation of government further by the total re-structuring of local government in this island, not only in administration but also in the nature and functions of local authorities themselves. This re-structuring would be on four levels in accordance with the principle of subsidiarity of function:
The only just solution to the wrongs imposed on Ireland by the British is for them to relinquish their claim on part of our country and set a date for withdrawal.
